Produce 13 TIMES MORE PATENTS per employee than larger businesses...

Yet ONLY 44% SURVIVE after 4 years of operation.

Add to the mix a business that incorporates environmental and social values to the bottom line, and the challenge for survival becomes even greater. Despite being the backbone of the U.S. economy, small businesses face the greatest risk of failure if they do not receive proper support.


The Rising Tide Initiative believes that small green businesses are vital to the success of the green economy and therefore will fulfill its mission by offering three interconnected initiatives.

  1. DISCOVER: Green Business Studies will investigate and discover innovative green businesses and identify their needs for improving their sustainable practices, business growth and business development.
  2. PROMOTE: Green Business Challenge is a groundbreaking platform to promote New York’s green economy. The Challenge offers educational workshops, prize money and valuable business services to emerging socially and environmentally responsible companies that have the potential to revolutionize their industry.
  3. CONSULT: Green Business Consulting is a comprehensive program that consults with the top performing companies of The Green Business Challenge on how to capitalize on the competitive advantages of their sustainable business models.
